A lot of people hearing me on stage now would be a little surprised at this little known fact.

I used to be a republican.

It’s funny, I realize that the country is kinda split in its political views but here in NYC republicans are almost hunted as witches. If some one says “I’m a republican” there greeted immediately by laughter.  Of course I don’t know about this amongst the rich since…well…I’m far from rich. But amongst the middle class to the shit poor people I know, this concept is comical. ESPECIALLY as a black man.

I remember when I first came OUT about my Republican status. Actually I didn’t come out as much as I was outed. It was Thanksgiving and I was about 12 or 13 (Yes, I had decided that young where my political viewpoints lied) and not too many people know my dirty little secret. My mother knew and cried alot about it. And she, in her anguish, told my douchebag, assholic(and now dead) uncle Michael (he’s not dead because of those things) and he felt a need to bring this up at the worst time possible.

At Thanksgiving dinner.

My mom wasn’t there because, well, my family wasn’t/isn’t the closest. and by “The Closest” I mean my couldn’t stand anyone in that house BESIDES my grandfather (her and my uncle went back and forth on their love for one another) so she stayed afar. Michael then, in the middle of dinner says “You know ELON says he’s a REPUBLICAN.”

I’ve never heard a room go silent so quickly. There was a baby crying during the entire meal and literally stopped and turned to look at me as if to say “What the F**K!?” I then tried to calmly and rationally explain to the room full of angry black people why I had made such a decision at my tender young age. This explaination was met by laughter, sarcasm and a rousing song entitled “Why is Elon such a fucktard”

Okay that last thing didn’t happen, but I felt that it was only a matter of time.

I say all this to say this. I’m no longer a republican.  But I am funny.  And I’ve signed up for the side of good. Well not so much good, as much as they are NOT republicans, who are a tad evil in my book. Not all of them, but theres some Darth Vaders lurking amongst them. Not only have I turned my back on the Good Ole Party, I’ve joined forces with Laughing Liberally. There doing a great show where I’m hosting this Wednesday at 8pm.
