I’ve been M.I to the A with the blogging since I’m a bit busy with web stuff (surprise, I don’t live completley off comedy. I know, shocking) and the publicity for the show I’m running for February at The P.I.T. “4 Shades Of Black”
A good friend of mine told me he was having a hard time selling the concept to his co-workers because there scared off by the name “…of Black”
Obviously these people haven’t met me or anyone on the show.
I think people imagine it to be like a Black Power protest, or maybe a Low Grade Def Jam. And its the exact opposite. The reason why I came up with the idea of “Shades” was because I wanted to break the black comedic stereotype. Not all black comics are cursing 40 thousand miles an hour, talking about the difference between black and white people, and re-inforcing negative stereotypes about people.
But week 1? Great show. We even got this happening quote from a review of the show…
“…and while all the standups in the collective are black and mine much
material from life as a black person, what’s far more prominent is the
be-yourself, be-honest, and speak from the height of your
intelligence-simplicity with which they approach their sets.”
See. Thats what I want people to notice about the show. Hopefully that will be the word that gets out. And just in case you haven’t seen my show, come check it out.
